Kevin Evans will join Darren Edwards in boxing for Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, the pair returning after four-year absences from the ring.

Carmarthen heavyweight Evans, 34, quit after winning silver in Melbourne in 2006, while Cwmavon lightweight Edwards retired after securing bronze.

They will be joined by ex-Cardiff City and Swansea City trainee Jermain Asare.

Andrew Selby, Fred Evans, Chris Jenkins Sean McGoldrick, Keiron Harding and Andrew Jones complete Wales' line-up.

Coach Tony Williams said: "We did really well in Melbourne and these boxers have a lot to live up to."

Evans, 34, was told in 2006 to take a year off to recover from a nose injury.

The 10-time Welsh champion - who can also boast a Commonwealth bronze medals from 1998 and a bronze from the 1999 World Championships - looked to have made his ring absence permanent, until a late change of heart ahead of the Delhi trip.

"The Commonwealth Games have proved to be the defining moments of my life," said Evans

"Delhi 2010 is going to be one hell of an experience. I'm just so grateful for this amazing opportunity. I'm ready to give it my best shot.

"This is definitely my last ever Games. I'm at the age limit.

"I'd class myself as a wildcard as I'm not too sure what to expect. I've been off the scene for four years but I know that I'm stronger than ever.

"My last bout was in Melbourne four years ago but I've been sparring here and there. I'm going into it with no pressure. I'm hoping I can go out there and enjoy it.

"Hopefully I can encourage the younger lads to enjoy themselves and not put too much pressure on themselves as that's when you are likely to put in a good performance."

Edwards returned to the ring early in 2010 to make his bid for selection and is among the boxers Wales' chef de mission Chris Jenkins hopes can enhance the nation's reputation at the Games.

He said: "Boxing has a rich heritage in Wales and at the Commonwealth Games.

"It has consistently delivered medals, right back to Howard Winstone at the then Empire Games in Cardiff in 1958."
