Welshman Andrew Selby secures Euro quarter-final spot

Welsh bantamweight Andrew Selby will fight Turkish rival Furkan Memis in a European amateur championships quarter-finals in Moscow on Wednesday.

The Barry boxer beat Pedro Matos of Portugal 6-3 on Monday to set-up a last eight clash for the Welshman.

The fight was level after the first round despite Selby throwing the majority of punches before edging in front of Matos in the second round.

Selby dominated the last, firing a host of clean shots to win the bout 6-3.

Selby's fellow Welshman Lewis Rees lost to Turkish fighter Onur Sipal 10-1 in the light-welterweight division on Sunday.
