Holy Trinity's Cathal McMonagle produced a final-round fightback to win the super-heavyweight title at the Irish Amateur Championships in Dublin. McMonagle fought back from 10-5 to snatch an 11-10 victory over Tommy Sheehan of St Michael's Athy. Cavan fighter John Joe Nevin defeated Derek Thorpe of St Aidan's Wexford 7-5 in the bantamweight decider. Westport man Ray Moylette defeated Ulster champion Steven Donnelly 10-2 in the light-welterweight final. Moylette is the current world youths champion. Eric Donovan defeated his St Michael's Athy club-mate 17-10 in the featherweight final while Moate's Gary Molloy edged out Baldoyle's Conor Ahern 6-4 in the flyweight decider. Olympic light-flyweight bronze medallist Paddy Barnes won his fourth successive Irish title by beating Jimmy Moore 8-1 on Friday night. Kenny Egan won his 10th straight Irish title by beating Belfast man Tommy McCarthy 8-5 at light-heavyweight. Donegal men Willie McLaughlin and Jason Quigley both suffered final defeats. Holder Willie McLaughlin was edged out 12-9 by John Joe Joyce at welterweight while Quigley was beaten 6-1 by Darren O'Neill in the middleweight final.
