Ryan Lindberg also defeated McCullagh in last year's Ulster final |
Ryan Lindberg won his fifth Ulster bantamweight title in a row with a controversial countback win over Donegal man Tyrone McCullagh. The fight ended 3-3 but Lindberg was given a 7-6 countback verdict. Paddy Barnes earned a walkover in the light-fly decider while other winners at the Andersonstown included Cathal McMonagle and Eamonn O'Kane. McMonagle stopped Damien Ramsey in the super-heavyweight final while O'Kane beat David Walsh at middleweight. Dungiven man O'Kane, now boxing for Immaculata club, beat the Holy Trinity man 11-3 in the decider. McMonagle, who stopped Ligoneil's Damien Ramsey in the third round of the super-heavyweight decider, was claiming his sixth Ulster title. A timekeeping error also marred Lindberg's win over McCullagh. The bell rang after two minutes and 15 seconds out of the third round which meant that the bout then had to be restarted for the final 45 seconds. McCullagh had led 3-1 after the opening round but failed to register a point in the concluding two rounds.
