 Paddy Barnes had won two fights to progress to the final in Turkey |
Belfast man Carl Frampton was one of two Irish winners at the Ahmet Comert Cup in Turkey but Paddy Barnes pulled out of his final because of illness. Frampton defeated Turkish hopeful Cetin Ozdemir in the featherweight decider but Barnes missed the light-flyweight final because of a virus. Olympic bronze medallist Barnes was scheduled to face Turk Ferhat Pehlivan. Katie Taylor clinched Ireland's other gold by beating Turkish lightweight Ozlem Dinc 5-1 in her final. World champion Taylor also picked up the best female boxer of the tournament award and the best overall boxer of the tournament award. The Bray woman won four bouts in the prestigious Turkish tournament. Irish captain Eric Donovan also picked up a bronze medal in the lightweight division after being beaten by eventual winner Cuba's Idil Leal.
