Birmingham boxing star Frankie Gavin says his next fight will prove to be another significant step-up in his professional career. The former world amateur champion, 24, will put his unbeaten record on the line against Ireland's Peter McDonagh in London on Saturday. "I'm stepping up every fight and I'll need to be at the top of my game to win," Gavin told BBC WM. "He's another durable fighter and it'll be another learning curve." McDonagh, 32, is a former Irish lightweight champion and has also challenged for the European and English light-welterweight titles. | If I can box how I can box, there'll only be one winner |
"I've got to be at my best to win but, don't get me wrong, I think I'm going to beat him, I don't think I'm going to lose," Gavin added. Gavin is also happy to be fighting an opponent whom he knows something about. "I knew nothing about the French kid (Samir Tergaoui). I couldn't have told you what hand he wrote or what stance he was," he said. "You know nothing about their boxing ability until you get in the ring with them. "At least I've got to watch Peter and I'll know a bit about him so I'll have a plan but, if I can box how I can box, there'll only be one winner."
