Cardiff bantamweight Andrew Selby has advanced to round two of the World Boxing Championships in Milan after a walkover against Arthur Mbengua. But Mold super-heavyweight Andy Jones suffered a crushing 99-second defeat to Cuban Erislandy Savon, nephew of triple-Olympic gold winner Felix. The shell-shocked Welshman endured two standing counts and was 10-0 behind when the referee ended his agony. Pontllanfraith featherweight Craig Evans has yet to begin his campaign. The 19-year-old fights out of the Pontypool club and won gold at this year's British Amateur Boxing Association Senior Championships. | 606: DEBATE |
Evans and Jones form the two-man Wales squad at the Mediolanum Forum, with Selby in the British Amateur Boxing Association's seven-man squad. Evans' coach Mark James and Ronnie Morris are the two coaches with the Wales team, with Eddie Dyer travelling as the referee/judge.
