Ricky Hatton will undergo tests at a Manchester hospital after suffering from stomach cramps and vomiting.

The 30-year-old former light-welterweight world champion complained of feeling unwell on Monday and was taken to hospital on Wednesday morning.

"He's been feeling unwell for a couple of days," said his agent Paul Speak.

"He will be in for tests for a few days to determine exactly what Ricky has caught, but we can confirm it is definitely not swine flu."

Speak said Hatton was taken to hospital on Wednesday morning by his girlfriend Jennifer after he began to vomit and suffer cramps.

They wanted to do more tests to find out exactly how he'd got this gastric infection

Hatton, who has yet to decide on his boxing future following his knockout defeat by Manny Pacquiao in May, has been speaking at sporting dinners and last week completed a three-venue tour in Ireland.

Ricky's father, Ray, who is also his manager, moved to reassure fans.

"He is not unconscious but is on a drip. He suffered severe stomach cramps and was in absolute agony," he told the Manchester Evening News.

"It was thought at first he had swine flu because the symptoms were all there but it seems he's caught some kind of severe gastric bug.

"The doctor said he had to stay on a drip and they wanted to do more tests to find out exactly how he'd got this gastric infection. It could have been there dormant for days or weeks."
