Fry may have to retire from professional boxing |
Liverpool-based light-heavyweight Courtney Fry has admitted he may have to consider his future in the sport. Fry, 34, a former Sydney Olympian, has grown increasingly frustrated at a lack of activity which has seen him box just 15 times in six years. "Inactivity is and may be my downfall," he told BBC Radio Merseyside. "Maybe it's because I haven't been outspoken and calling people out to fight. "If I don't get any fights soon I will have to pack it in." Fry, who is due to face Southampton's Matthew Barney for the British Masters Title in Swindon on 24 July, is perplexed as to why he has found it so difficult to keep active. "I haven't boxed for so long and I'm at a certain age," he added. "I'm the sort of fighter that I would have thought people would want to box as a stepping stone and a scalp on their record. It just hasn't happened that way." Fry had been in talks to fight Poland's Dawid Kostecki for a fringe world title before the negotiations broke down over money. As a result the man from Enfield is now due to face Barney. | To be honest I'm not holding my breath as I've had so many let downs now |
But, given the number of fights he has seen cancelled or fall through over the last 18 months, Fry says he is not 100 per cent convinced this fight will go ahead. "To be honest I'm not holding my breath as I've had so many let downs now. I just really don't get angry, what happens, happens," said Fry.
