Liverpool-based light heavyweight Courtney Fry is pushing for a British title opportunity following his appearance on Prizefighter last week.

The 33-year-old, who originally hails from London, was beaten at the semi-final stage of the televised knock-out style competition by Tony Oakey.

Fry told BBC Radio Merseyside: "I believe the British title will be made vacant this week or next week.

"That's up for grabs and I'd like to go for the Commonwealth belt as well."

Fry is keen to keep his options open, having heard that current British champion Dean Francis could be about to vacate his title to move up to cruiserweight.

A fight that interests Fry is Nathan Cleverley for the Commonwealth title but with Oakey winning Prizefighter last week, many of the sport's observers believe Oakey could be set for a rematch with Fry.

Over 10 to 12 rounds Oakey won't live with me and I'm gunning for him. I just can't wait for him

Oakey is a former British champion and beat Fry over three rounds last week.

Despite the Portsmouth native's pedigree Fry believes he has his beating over the championship distance.

"Over 10 to 12 rounds Oakey won't live with me and I'm gunning for him. I just can't wait for him," said Fry.

On his loss to Oakey last week, which saw him sustain a cut to his head which required stitches, Fry added: "I thought I may have done enough to have nicked it but I dropped down to his level.

"I didn't box him, if I had he would have lost.

"Instead I decided to brawl with him and had a street fight instead of boxing."
