Stalker won the silver medal at the EU Championships in June |
Liverpool amateur lightweight Tom Stalker believes he is beginning to find some consistency in his boxing. The southpaw from Huyton has reached the finals of the Great Britain Amateur Championships and the European Union Championships in his last two outings. "In two years I've come on loads and I just need to keep working and getting better," he told BBC Radio Merseyside. "Every tournament I enter now, I'm good enough to win. It's who performs on the day," added the 24-year-old. Stalker, who fights for the St Aloysius club, took silver at the EU event in Denmark this month, having won the GB Championships in Liverpool in May, but he still believes he has room for improvement. And he admitted he was disappointed not to take gold at the EU Championships. | I was a bit disappointed with that but the only positives I take are that if I box him again I know I can beat him |
"I was a bit gutted as the German who beat me has beaten me before - it was just frustrating as the first round was 0-0, and then I went 2-0 up, but he ended up beating me 10-4. "I was a bit disappointed with that, but the only positives I take are that if I box him again I know I can beat him," added Stalker. Stalker says he is now focused on earning his place in the Great Britain squad for the World Championships in Milan in September. "There's a training camp in France and there's one in Ireland so I'm just going to be training and getting myself as fit as I can," said Stalker.
