Martin Rogan celebrates his title triumph with trainer John Breen |
Martin Rogan will fight Sam Sexton of Norwich in the first defence of his Commonwealth heavyweight title at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast on 15 May. Hometown hero Rogan, 37, claimed the title by stopping European champion Matt Skelton in Birmingham on 1 March. Like Rogan, Sexton, 24, is a previous winner of the Prizefighter tournament and has won 11 of his 12 fights. Beijing Olympians James DeGale, Frankie Gavin and Billy Joe Saunders are all set to box on the bill. Tickets for the fight will cost between £30 and £150 but promoter Frank Warren says he is confident that the attendance will approach the arena's 10,000 capacity. Rogan told the BBC it was "a dream come true" to be headlining a bill in his native Belfast. "I hold the belt and have nothing to prove - Sam Sexton is the one who has something to prove," added Rogan.
