Haye has big plans for boxing in Liverpool

David Haye has promised to bring "big time boxing" back to Liverpool after announcing Hayemaker Promotions will hold a show in the city on 28 March.

Merseyside's Derry Matthews, John Watson, Joe McNally and Tony Dodson are all due to appear on the bill.

"I just can't wait. It's a solid Liverpudlian flavour," Londoner Haye told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"We are bringing big time boxing back to Liverpool, where it should have been for a long, long time."

The former undisputed cruiserweight world champion, 28, is now a promoter alongside chasing the heavyweight crown and will host the event at the Liverpool Echo Arena.

Hayemaker Promotions are still searching for offices and Haye has not ruled out basing the new promotional company in Liverpool.

"We feel the guys that we've got can go on and win genuine titles and to do that they need to be boxing regularly and ideally in their home town.

"We are going to be looking at promoting boxing here on a regular basis because these guys need experience."

Haye is due to fight WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko in June and he believes the big Ukrainian is tailor-made for him.

I feel I can get inside his punches and raid him with quality, explosive punches

"His style suits me down to the ground. He throws a lot of single punches and he's very tall.

"I feel I can get inside his punches and raid him with quality, explosive punches.

"I have a great strategy for fight night," said Haye.
