Chad Dawson has retained his WBC light-heavyweight title after a hotly-contested points decision over Glen Johnson in Florida.

All three judges scored 116-112 in favour of the 25-year-old after a 12-round contest but it was greeted with loud derision by the Tampa crowd.

The Jamaican veteran had caught Dawson with right hooks and wobbled the champion in round 10.

It was the biggest test of his career but he held on for the points win.

Also on the Woods-Tarver undercard was Briton Danny Williams and he floored opponent Marcus McGee twice on his way to a six-round points win.

In his first fight since a four round no-contest against Oleg Platov in December, Williams looked sluggish despite hammering his journeyman opponent to the canvas in the opening round.

Williams now has aspirations to defend his British title against the winner of the forthcoming clash between John McDermott and Pele Reid, but must improve if he is to have a future back on the world stage.
