Thaxton is unbeaten in 10 fights since his 2004 comeback |
Norwich boxer Jon Thaxton's fight against Yuri Romanov will be one of his toughest ever according to his trainer. Graham Everett has been preparing Thaxton for his European Lightweight title bout at York Hall in Bethnel Green on Friday 4 April. "We're going to have to lift ourselves because he is an excellent fighter," Everett told BBC Radio Norfolk. It will be Thaxton's 10th fight since making a comeback in 2004 after being injured in a car crash. "I think Romanov is a very accomplished fighter but since Jon's come back he is unbeaten in 10 [bouts] and is probably fighting better than ever, " Everett said. | We are the underdogs but that's just the way Jon wants it Thaxton's trainer Graham Everett |
Thaxton always attracts a large fan base and hundreds of his supporters from Norfolk are expected to make the trip to East London to support him in April. And Everett admits many boxing pundits will not be expecting Thaxton to win but that does not bother him: "In a lot of people's eyes we are the underdogs but that's just the way Jon wants it, we have a game plan and everything should go right."
