Trainer tips Jones for quick win

Roy Jones Jr's trainer has predicted a quick win when he faces Felix Trinidad at Madison Square Gardens on Saturday.

Trinidad, 35, and Jones, 39, meet in a non-title 170lb contest and both fighters have promised they will deliver quick knock-outs.

"Trinidad's father says he's going to knock out Roy. If they come in with that strategy it'll be an early night," said Alton Merkerson.

"With that plan Roy will take him out. I don't see it going the distance."

In his heyday, Trinidad (42-2, 35 KOs) was renowned as a power puncher with an 80% knock-out rate.

For the bout with five-time world champion Jones (51-4, 38 KOs), Trinidad will be 25lb heavier than when he won the first of his eight world titles, at welterweight in 1993.

But his father Felix Sr said this would not be a problem.

"Tito has shown no difficulty in moving up in weight. He brings his strength and his punch with him," said Trinidad Sr.

"I feel strong at this weight," said Trinidad Jr.

"My hands are ready as they have always been. When I catch him, he will feel my power."
