Arthur sticks to present weight
Steve Foster Junior sends Alex Arthur to the floor at Meadowbank
Arthur was floored by Foster Junior in the 11th round in Edinburgh
Alex Arthur admits he is struggling to make the nine stone four pounds limit but has vowed to fight on at superfeatherweight for another year.

The Scot had to battle to overcome Englishman Steve Foster Junior on Saturday to retain his WBO title.

But Arthur, who could face full champion Joan Guzman next year, said: "I won't be moving up just yet.

"I've had some tests carried out with my sports scientist and we have decided that we have another year easily."

Arthur survived an 11th-round knockdown to beat Foster on points at Meadowbank.

"Great champions go down and get up, come back and win fights and that's what I did," he said.

"If you put me down, you have to nail me down.

"Of course I believe there is improvement needed. Some stupid mistakes need to be rectified. I became far too relaxed.

"I will go back to the gymnasium, rectify them, work on a few things and put it all together."

Arthur will face full champion Joan Guzman early next year if the Dominican Republic boxer decides to keep his belt.

But promoter Frank Warren is looking to show Arthur off at Edinburgh Castle next year.

"First of all, we've got to look at the situation with the WBO," he said.

"I think Guzman will go up a weight, Alex will then be declared champion and we will see what's there.

"Alex is 29 years of age, his career has gone really well and he's at the stage where he is looking for even better things, but first we've got to secure his position as number one.

"We've done Cardiff Castle, so I'd like to do Edinburgh Castle. I like putting shows on in unique places.

"It is realistic, of course it is, as long as the Edinburgh fans continue to get behind their man.

"It's about creating an event because people want to feel they are at something special.

"It is a unique setting and it would be great for Alex."

Meanwhile, Ricky Hatton, who failed in his attempt to defeat WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather last week, was full of praise for Arthur and his opponent.

"Alex has had a lot of good fights," he told BBC Sport at Meadowbank.

"It was the fight of the year four years ago against Michael Gomez and that was not far behind it.

"Full marks to him to pull it out of the bag. He got shook up in the eleventh round and got through it like a true champion."

Hatton thought Arthur's struggle to make the weight showed in the performance and he thought that the Scot ought to now move up to the lightweight division.
