Manny Pacquiao retained his fringe WBC international super featherweight title on Saturday by stopping the previously unbeaten Jorge Solis in San Antonio. The referee called a halt after Pacquiao, 28, floored his Mexican opponent twice in round eight, having been butted in the sixth.
The Filipino dominated the fight, throwing 342 punches to Solis' 149 and landing 109 of them, as opposed to 43.
Pacquiao wants a rematch with WBC super featherweight king Juan Manuel Marquez.
He drew with the Mexican in 2004 when Marquez was the WBA and IBF featherweight title-holder.
On the undercard, Mexico's Jorge Arce lost his WBC super flyweight title to compatriot Cristian Mijares on a unanimous decision.
And Mexico's Edgar Sosa claimed the vacant WBC light flyweight crown with a majority decision over America's Brian Viloria.
In a non-title bout, light middleweight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr preserved his unbeaten record when the referee stopped his fight against Anthony Shuler in the second round.
