John Duddy remains unbeaten after 11 professional fights |
Derry's John Duddy chalked up his 11th professional win by flooring Illinois veteran Pat Coleman in the final round in Chicago on Saturday morning. New York-based Duddy is fast becoming a big draw Stateside, having returned to the ring after a seven month break last year due to visa complications.
The 26-year-old middleweight used a left hook-overhand right combination to finish off Coleman in the eighth round.
The impressive Duddy will be in fight action again on 3 September.
Promotional giant Don King was so impressed with Duddys Madison Square Garden defeat of Peter Thompson last month that he tabled a contract for the Ulsterman, which included a $200,000 signing bonus spread over two years.
King, in effect, was just joining a queue of suitors that already includes heavyweight promoters Bob Arum (Top Rank), Carl Moretti (Main Events), Luis DeCubas (Team Freedom) and Cedric Kushner (CKP).
Duddy's manager Eddie McLoughlin, a Mayo native, expects his charge to end his reign as a free agent at the end of the year.
It may be sooner judging by the ease at which unbeaten middleweight Duddy disposed of the 34-year-old Coleman.
Using efficient combinations from the first bell, Duddy pressurised his opponent at just the right times and despite catching a couple of left hooks, wobbled Coleman twice in rounds five and six.
