Beyer finally hunted down the backpedalling Colajanni |
Markus Beyer stopped Alberto Colajanni of Italy in the 12th round as he defended his WBC super middleweight title for the fourth time. Beyer chased Colajanni for the whole fight before catching him with a short left with 48 seconds to go, flooring him for the second time in the round.
"I was getting frustrated," said the German. "I kept trying to make him show himself, but he was fast."
Beyer, who has held the same belt three times, improved to 33-2 with 13 KOs.
Colajanni's record fell to 18-1 in his first fight outside of Italy, and his frequent backtracking in the ring drew a warning from the referee.
On the undercard, Italy's Paolo Vidoz defended his European heavyweight title with a unanimous decision against Germany's Cengiz Koc.
