Maccarinelli returned to action in style on Saturday |
Wales' Enzo Maccarinelli is confident the long-awaited fight with WBO cruiserweight champion Johnny Nelson will happen before the end of the year. He said that negotiations between the two camps are at an advanced stage and a deal could be struck soon.
"I think the fight is a lot closer to be sorted out than everybody thinks," Maccarinelli, 24, told BBC Wales Sport.
The WBU champion knocked out Poland's Roman Bugaj in one round in a non-title bout in Manchester on Saturday.
It was the Swansea fighter's first outing since January and the typically explosive victory takes his record to 21 wins (16 KOs) and one defeat.
Nelson, 38, has been out of action since September last year after a mandatory defence against Italian Vincenzo Cantatore was called off for a second time in March.
