Magee got his career back on track by beating Varuzhan Davtyan |
Brian Magee has been nominated by the Boxing Board to fight Nottingham's Carl Froch for the British and Commonwealth super-middleweight titles. Magee's manager, Pat Magee, has opened negotiations with Froch's management over the venue for the contest.
The Froch camp want to stage the fight in Nottingham in early February but Magee believes he can put a strong case for having the fight in Belfast.
Magee is hoping to confirm news of a warm-up fight soon.
Froch is rated number six by the WBC.
Magee added that there was a chance the fight could also become a European title bout.
The Ukranian Vitali Tsypko, who defeated Brian in Germany last July, defends the title for the first time next weekend and Pat has received a commitment of a voluntary defence against Brian in Belfast next year if Tsypko is successful.
There is a chance that Tsypko could be offered a world title fight and might vacate the European title, leaving the Magee-Froch fight as a European title bout.
