The Bolton-based Khan was far too classy for Gethin |
Amir Khan easily got the better of Walsall fighter Steve Gethin over three one-sided rounds at Glasgow's Braehead Arena on Saturday. The 18-year-old Khan made a good start and an accurate left hook left Gethin struggling after less than 10 seconds.
It was more of the same from the Olympic star in the second round as his opponent struggled with a bloody nose.
Referee Victor Loughlin stepped in after 49 seconds of the third round to save Gethin further punishment.
"I fought a brilliant fight and I thank everybody in Scotland," said Khan after his victory.
 | (Khan) will fight again on 10 December but we haven't got an opponent yet |
"I am obviously not 100% yet, it will take time but I will keep this going. I hit him with some good shots, I hit him hard so I think it was right to stop the fight.
"I'm still learning and I want to make the step up all the time. The fights will get harder and harder and I will learn more all the time."
Promoter Frank Warren defended the choice of opponent.
"It's a matter of learning," he said. "Steve Gethin is the type of opponent all boxers fight in the early stage of his career.
"Amir will continue to fight people like this and he did a good job on him.
"I thought the ref was right to stop it when he did because Steve Gethin was not firing back.
"We want to keep him bust but don't want to burn him out. He will fight again on 10 December but we haven't got an opponent yet."
