Corcoran has lost one of his 14 professional fights |
English super featherweight champion Billy Corcoran wants to put his newly-acquired title on the line against ex-ABA champion Kevin Mitchell. Wembley's Corcoran, 24, beat Roy Rutherford at London's York Hall last Friday to claim his first title.
Dagenham's Mitchell, 20, is unbeaten in 15 fights and was recently named Boxing Writers' Young Boxer of the Year.
"I am ready and waiting to put my belt on the line. I am a better fighter in every department," said Corcoran.
Corcoran, who has won 12 and drawn one of his 14 fights, stopped former British champion Rutherford in four rounds to claim the English crown.
And promoter Mick Hennessy believes the former England amateur, who is now trained by former British middleweight champion Robert McCracken, is destined for big things.
"I loved Billy as an amateur but I always thought he'd be more suited to the pro game," said Hennessy.
"Robert has refined that aggression and turned him into a fantastic come-forward fighter.
"With his exciting, made-for-TV style, he can go on to become one of the most exciting fighters in Europe."
