Magee's comeback opponent named
WBU welterweight champion Eamonn Magee
Eamonn Magee will fight at the King's Hall on 18 March
Eamonn Magee's opponent on his return to the ring in Belfast next month will be Denmark's Allan Vester.

Magee, who will be making the first defence of his WBU welterweight title, will be boxing for the first time since suffering a street assault last year.

Vester is a former world and European title challenger and Magee's manager Mike Callahan says the Dane will test the Northern Ireland man.

"Everyone wants to see what Eamonn has left," said Callahan.

Magee returns to the ring at the King's Hall 12 months after suffering a badly-broken leg in the assault in Belfast.

Callahan said: "When you think about what Eamonn has been through you would have to say this a little bit of a gamble.

"This will be a big chance for Vester, who has mixed at the highest level.

"It speaks volumes about Eamonn that he was offered a 10-rounder for the same money on the show but wanted to defend his title and is prepared to take on Vester.

"I think it's fair to say that anyone else would be wanting an easier option for the first fight back in over a year."

Magee is dedicating the first defence of the title he won in December 2003 to the medical staff who nursed him back to full health.

"I owe them everything," said Magee.
