WBO super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe wants a unification bout with Denmark's Mikkel Kessler this summer. The 32-year-old has vowed to knock out Brian Magee in his next defence in Belfast on 18 March but he also has his sights on WBA champion Kessler.
"I believe Kessler is a good possibility and hopefully that fight can be made," said the Welshman.
"First I have to deal with Magee and I'm looking to show I am still the best super middleweight in the world."
Calzaghe admitted 2004 had been a poor year by his standards and was critical of his own performance in his last defence in October when he beat Kabary Salem on points.
"I am my own worst critic and I know I boxed badly that night," he added.
"But with Brian I'm sure we will be fighting with our fists and not our heads.
"Last year was a hard year for me - I had some personal problems as well - but now I feel more focused and ready to give a fast and furious performance.
"I had a couple of choices, I could have fought him in Denmark or Newcastle but I chose to come to Belfast and I am looking forward to fighting in front of the Belfast public who are passionate about their boxing."
The King's Hall show will also feature the return to the ring of WBU welterweight champion Eamonn Magee.
Magee will finally make his first defence of the title which he won in December 2003 before suffering an horrific attack by a gang which left him hospitalised.
While many thought his career was over, Magee insists he never gave up on getting back into the ring.
"I'm ready to show everyone that I still have a lot to offer. I could have had a 10-rounder but I thought if I can go 10 then I can go 12," said the WBC champion.
