Arthur says he is over the cuts trouble that cost him his first loss

Commonwealth Games gold medallist Jamie Arthur has joined trainer Enzo Calzaghe as he feels his cuts problems are over.

The super featherweight, 25, suffered his first defeat in January when a clash of heads opened a bad gash.

But having consulted Ricky Hatton's surgeon Pat Whitfield he has been told that his problem was dehydration that had affected the skin's elasticity.

"The diet's right now and I've been training with Enzo and Joe for a month, it's been phenomenal," said Arthur.

The Cwmbran man is looking to make his ring return either on the 9 July in Edinburgh or the 16 July in Bolton.

The former would be on the undercard of Alex Arthur-Boris Sinitsin, the latter on Amir Khan's professional debut, set for the 7,000-seat Bolton Arena.

"It should be an interesting year for boxing, with Frank Warren set to do a deal with ITV and get the sport more prominence on terrestrial television," said Arthur, whose professional record stands at 9-1 (4 KOs).

"There are no excuses for me now, surgically there's nothing wrong with my cuts and I couldn't learn from anyone better than Enzo and Joe.

"I'm feeling comfortable at the weight and the sparring has been hard and top class.

"Enzo's readjusted my style, drummed out the bad habits and taken me back to the drawing board.

"He will definitely bring the best out of me. You'll see a change in my style, I won't be falling in with the punches and that will eliminate the head clashes that have caused the cuts."
