Williams sets record at weigh-in
Danny Williams poses for the cameras at the weigh-in
Danny Williams equalled the record weight for a world-title fight when he tipped the scales at 19st 4lb ahead of his clash with Vitali Klitschko.

Williams, who weighed in at 18st 13lb for his last fight against Mike Tyson, has never been heavier in his nine-year boxing career.

Klitschko has also bulked up for the WBC title fight, matching his own heaviest-ever weight of 17st 12lb.

The last boxer to weigh in at Williams' weight was Primo Carnera back in 1934.

Williams said coming in at the weight had been a deliberate decision, designed to help combat Klitschko's massive reach advantage.

I feel absolutely tremendous at this weight

And the 31-year-old said he had hoped to set a new record weight all of his own.

"It is disappointing because we worked out who the heaviest ever had been and it was our intention to beat it," said Williams.

"But I am the strongest I have ever been and you have all seen that despite my weight I have not lost any of my speed.

"I feel absolutely tremendous at this weight and I am very confident. I didn't even notice Klitschko looking at me when we were getting on the scales.

"I feel fantastic. I'm fit, focused and ready to go."

The pair's combined weight of 37st 2lb did set a new record though, beating the previous best set by Klitschko and Lennox Lewis in June.
