Round-by-round action as Vitali Klitschko ends the brave resistance of Danny Williams to retain his WBC heavyweight title.

Round one: A disastrous first round for the Briton. Williams charges forward at the opening bell but is driven back by ranging jabs from the champion. He is hurt by a Klitschko right-hand after a minute and his confidence wilts. Williams just survives a knockdown after a nine count but already looks beaten when the bell saves him.

Round two: Klitschko is in complete control and picks off his challenger with ease. Williams survives the onslaught and enjoys a marginally better round, but the odds are very long that he pulls off a comeback as he did against Mike Tyson.

Round three: Williams wakes up and hurts Klitschko with a body shot - he deserves so much credit for still being in there after his shocking start. But he then walks into another Ukrainian power punch and is saved by the bell again.

Round four: Williams has shown he can take a terrific punch, but his limited head movement and slow reactions mean he is having to take far too many. Perhaps the Briton is paying a price for the extra weight he is carrying.

Round five: When Williams does land a punch, the power is lacking because he is constantly put off balance by Klitschko. Williams' face is swelling up, but he fights on - what a brave display.

Round six: A better round for Williams as he tries to come back on the offensive. He only has mixed success, but the intention is right because he can only lose if he allows Klitschko to dictate the pace from range.

Round seven: Williams explodes to life at the start of the round and British chants ring around the arena, but he is caught again mid-round. The Briton hits the canvas for a third time, but rises again. This is incredible courage, but should his corner pull him out of the fight?
