Audley Harrison has revealed he still hopes to take on Matt Skelton, but not on promoter Frank Warren's terms. Although he refuses to sign with Warren for the British title bout, Harrison is prepared to strike a deal with Warren's Sports Network for an autumn showdown.
But the heavyweight is adamant that no deal would hand Warren control over any of his future contests.
"If I can do this fight with Skelton it would be fantastic for the fans and for British boxing," said Harrison.
Harrison, whose television deal with the BBC runs out after Saturday's WBF defence against Tomasz Bonin, has publicly fallen out with Warren in the past. And the 32-year-old has tried to keep his options open.
"If it doesn't happen then I have some good contacts and good opportunities in the United States and I will achieve my ambition to be world heavyweight champion," he said.
"Audley Harrison is seen as a guy who doesn't want to step up, who is in it for the money, a joker.
"But I'm going to get there and I'm not going to do it on Frank Warren's terms, I'm going to do it on my terms," said Harrison.
Warren said there were no remaining obstacles to a deal being struck, after earlier talks had ended without agreement.
"Audley can no longer say there are any obstacles to him fighting Matt Skelton," said Warren.
"He's out of contract with the BBC now and if he fancies he can beat Skelton we can make the fight."
