Unbeaten Floyd Mayweather outclassed DeMarcus Corley, claiming a unanimous decision in their 12-round WBC elimination bout in Atlantic City. Mayweather, winner of 32 successive fights, was competing for the first time as a 140-pounder.
He used strength, superior speed and patience to sink Corley, twice knocking him to the canvas.
It was the second straight defeat for Corley, who lost a split decision to Zab Judah last July.
Corley's first tumble came in the eighth round when he was hit by a right uppercut and left hook when emerging from a clinch.
Mayweather then surged across the ring to fell him with a left-right combination.
The 6,103 crowd at Boardwalk Hall rose several times in appreciation of Mayweather's talents, notably when he floored Corley again in the 10th with a five-punch burst.
Corley, a 29-year-old southpaw from Washington nicknamed Chop Chop, entered the ring wearing an Army camouflage jacket and gas mask, but it proved no distraction to 27-year-old Mayweather, who hails from Las Vegas.
"He was a tough solid fighter with good punches," Mayweather said of his opponent.
"But I was never in any kind of danger and I was never hurt."
