Brian Magee successfully defended his IBO super middleweight title |
Promoter Barry Hearn is confident of signing up Robin Reid for a summer showdown with Ulsterman Brian Magee. Magee retained his IBO super-middleweight title for the seventh time after a gruelling duel with tough Nigerian Jerry Elliott.
Now Hearn will have further talks with former WBC champion Reid.
"I don't have any plan B, only a plan A and that is a fight between Brian and Robin Reid back at the King's Hall," said Hearn.
The Belfastman survived a first-round knockdown at the King's Hall to earn a unanimous decision.
"I think Brian will have learned a lot from that fight. He will know a little bit more of what boxing at the top level is all about," added Hearn.
"It was a great fight for the fans. They got value for money and they will come back for more fights like that and Reid against Magee would be an exciting fight."

Champion Magee clearly did not expect such a tough title defence, though he believes it was just what he needed before moving on to face someone like Reid.
The former WBC champion last year went the distance with Germany's Sven Ottke in an IBF title fight.
Magee said: "I'm ready for Reid or anyone else. I think this fight showed that I am serious about fighting the best.
"I knew it was not going to be an easy fight and he was very strong but getting off the floor to win shows that I am a true champion.
"It was one of the toughest fights of my career, maybe the toughest. I had to dig deep to win the fight.
"It was a big learning fight and that's the kind of fight in which you need a good corner to keep you under control and focused.
"There has been a lot of talk about fighting Reid and if it's him then bring it on. I just had to stay focused on beating Jerry Elliott."
