Brian Magee fights Nigerian Jerry Elliott in Belfast on 17 April |
Belfast super middleweight Brian Magee could have a world title eliminator with Robin Reid if he successfully defends his IBO title on Saturday. Promoter Barry Hearn is confident a summer showdown with Reid will happen if Magee overcomes Germany-based Nigerian Jerry Elliott in Belfast.
"Brian cannot afford to take Elliott for granted because he has been in with some world class fighters," said Hearn.
"I expect him to win and we will try to finally get the fight with Reid."
Hearn said he expected a contest between Magee and Reid to be an eliminator for the WBA or IBF championship.
"Brian has done everything that has been asked of him so far and he is getting better and better," said Hearn.
"Now he is ready to move on and get a big fight with Reid if he can beat Elliott."
Saturday's contest will be 28-year-old Magee's seventh defence ofthe IBO belt.
