Witter's last loss was against WBO champion Zab Judah in 2000 |
Junior Witter will face gym-mate Gavin Down in Bradford on Friday night after original opponent Salvatore Battaglia pulled out through gastroentiritis. Witter was due for a defence of his European light welterweight title and will still put his title on the line.
And the British and Commonwealth belts will now also be at stake.
Down warned: "I love being the underdog and I have nothing to lose. This is my big chance and once I am in there my only aim will be to destroy him."
John Ingle, who runs the Sheffield gym where the duo train, added: "It is a bit unusual, but I don't think it will cause too many problems.
"We have been in this situation before and the good news for Gavin is that when I have had fights against my brother in the past I have usually won."
Ingle will be in Down's corner for the night while his brother Dominic continues his usual arrangement with Witter.
