Witter wants a shot at Hatton |
Junior Witter retained his Commonwealth light-welterweight title with a comfortable win over Kenya's Fred Kinuthia. Witter's victory at the MEN Arena in Manchester on the Ricky Hatton v Aldo Rios undercard keeps his hopes of facing Hatton alive.
The Bradford man dropped Kinuthia with a left hook and referee Larry O'Connell waved the contest off two minutes and 51 seconds into round two.
Witter had been told to impress by promoter Frank Warren with American TV network Showtime still not keen on showcasing a match between the two Britons.

And he did all he could against an opponent who came with a record of eight wins from his 10 professional fights but barely landed a punch in anger.
After a tentative start Witter opened up in round two and landed two crisp right hands before a left-uppercut wobbled the challenger.
Witter began to dominate his outclassed opponent and after another right he dropped his opponent and O'Connell wisely judged he had done enough.
It was Witter's 12th straight stoppage win since his solitary defeat to Zab Judah in June 2000.
Witter said: "I'm really doing all I can to get the fight with Hatton.
"The way things are going I'm sure I will get to fight Hatton, but I might be 40 when it happens.
"I thought it went well tonight. He was awkward and had a good jab but my speed, power and accuracy was there.
"It was nice because it is so long since I boxed and I need to keep busier in future."
