Brian Magee has made six defences of his IBO title |
Brian Magee will defend his IBO super middleweight title against Nigerian Jerry Elliott on 17 April. The Austrian-based Elliott gets the fight after Nordin Ben-Saleh was ruled out by injury.
Elliott has claimed a draw with WBA number 10-ranked Ben Saleh and is the current IBF International super middleweight champion.
The Nigerian was previously rated in the WBC's top-10 middleweights and has lost only three of his 41 pro bouts.
Last year, Elliott lost a world title eliminator against Kenya's Evans Ashira.
Magee is hoping that an impressive performance on 17 April could land him a title challenge against Australia's WBA champion Anthony Mundine or IBF kingpin Sven Ottke.
The Belfastman, now ranked eighth by the WBA, has claimed 21 straight wins in his professional career including six successful defences of the lightly-regarded IBO title.
His last fight was an impressive stoppage of former world champion Hassine Cherifi in November.
Magee is currently training in New York in advance of next month's contest.
Meanwhile, Belfast welterweight Neil Sinclair is hoping to make a return to the ring in Copenhagen on 1 May.
The former British champion contemplated quitting the sport last year but he now insists that he has regained his desire to box on.
He is being lined up to fight on a bill in Denmark where World Cruiserweight Champion Johnny Nelson will be in action.
"I've been training away and getting the old buzz back again," said Sinclair.
