Brian Magee has made six defences of his IBO title |
Belfast's Brian Magee has been denied an early crack at Marcus Beyer's WBC super-middleweight title. Magee had been lined up to face Beyer after Australia's Danny Green had to pull out of a scheduled rematch against the German.
However, the Beyer camp have opted instead for a voluntary defence against South Africa's Andre Thysee who was stopped by Magee last year.
"They have gone for the easier option," said Magee's manager Harry Hawkins.
Magee will now concentrate on the defence of his IBO belt at the King's Hall on 20 March.
He plans to go to the United States for three weeks of training and sparring.
Manager Hawkins believes a bout with Beyer will eventually take place.
Magee has claimed 21 straight wins in his professional career including six successful defences of the lightly-regarded IBO title.
His last fight was an impressive stoppage of former world champion Hassine Cherifi in November.
