"Sugar" Shane Mosley could lure Puerto Rican Felix Trinidad out of retirement for a one-off fight this year, said promoter Gary Shaw. Mosley, the WBC and WBA super-welterweight champion, will defend his title against IBF holder Ronald Wright in March before focusing on Trinidad.
"Sugar Shane and Tito [Trinidad] are ready to set a date," said Shaw.
"Sugar Shane has given me a mandate to only negotiate career-defining fights and who better than Tito Trinidad?"
Shaw added: "Once Sugar Shane defeats Winky Wright to become the first-ever undisputed 154-pound champion, there is only one challenge left, Trinidad."
Three-time world champion Trinidad, who along with Mosley is the only other boxer to beat Oscar de la Hoya, has been retired since 2002.
And promoter Don King said last month that the only fight he would contemplate would be a rematch with De la Hoya.

But Shaw said: "They [Mosley and Trinidad] share so much history. Both have won three world titles in three different weight classes. They truly are the cream and the class of boxing.
"It is a dream match-up for fight fans around the world.
"After the final details are worked out next week, the only thing needed will be for Sugar Shane and Tito to say I do."
Trinidad retired in July 2002 after reigning supreme in the welters, super-welters and middle weights.
The 33-year-old's 41-1 win-loss record was marred only by defeat to American Bernard Hopkins in September 2001 for the unified middleweight title.
Mosley, 32, has won 39 and lost two of his fights, and insisted taking on Trinidad would give him the chance to crown his career.
"I promised myself and my fans that from now on, I would only take career-defining fights," said Mosley.
"I consider that promise a solemn vow. Winky Wright is for boxing history and personal history. Felix Trinidad is for immortality.
"He is the biggest challenge out there, and everyone knows I love a challenge."
