Trinidad and King celebrate their last win over Oscar de la Hoya |
Felix Trinidad is ready to come out of retirement provided he can fight Oscar de la Hoya, according to Don King. Trinidad surprised the boxing world when he hung up his gloves in May 2002 at the age of 29.
The Puerto Rican held world titles in three different weight classes and beat De la Hoya in 1999.
"He doesn't want a tune-up, he wants Oscar first," said promoter King. "He would be ready in September, October or November."
Trinidad quit the ring having won 41 of his 42 bouts, his sole defeat coming at the hands of Bernard Hopkins in a 2001 middleweight unification bout.
He was the first man to beat De la Hoya and was set for a re-match against the "Golden Boy" when he called time on his career after beating Frenchman Hassine Cherifi.
At the time Trinidad, known as "Tito", said "all the money in the world" would not tempt him back into the ring and he had set his heart on becoming a teacher or an accountant.
