Wladimir Klitschko needs to boost his title credentials |
Wladimir Klitschko hopes to bounce back from his loss to Corrie Sanders when he fights Danell Nicholson on Saturday. The younger of the Ukrainian brothers surrendered his WBO title to South African Sanders in two rounds in March.
But the 27-year-old can boost his title credentials with a win over American Nicholson, who has beaten John Ruiz and lost to David Tua in a mixed career.
"Nicholson is the kind of foe that Wladimir needs," said promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl of the contest in Germany.
"He is a hard-to-fight, hard-hitting American and Wladimir needs this kind of fighter after a year of very mixed success."
Older Kitschko brother Vitali agrees: "Wladimir is the best boxer in the world, but without a win against Nicholson, there's no sense talking about a title fight."
Wladimir has made slow progress since his painful defeat in March.
He outclassed Fabio Moli, a hopelessly overmatched Argentine fighter, inside two minutes in August.
But Saturday's fight will give a much better indication of whether he is ready to rejoin Vitali in the top ranks of the heavyweight division.
