Maccarinelli will top the Cardiff bill in place of Calzaghe |
WBO super-middleweight champ Joe Calzaghe has been forced out of his 6 December fight with Mger Mkrtchyan because of flu. "I am bitterly disappointed," said the Welshman.
"But after seeing recent examples of boxers going into the ring less than 100% fit and losing their fights and titles, I have taken the advice of my personal physician and withdrawn.
"I apologise to my fans, but I would be stupid to risk it all by going into the ring unwell and blowing all the hard work put in over the years."
The show at Cardiff Ice Rink will now be headlined by WBU cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli who will make his second defence against Earl Morais of South Africa, a late replacement for Carlos Cruzat of Chile.
Calzaghe's withdrawal means he has fought just once in 2003, a memorable two-round war with Byron Mitchell in June.

He has completed less than four rounds since August 2002, and with the champion now aged 31 concern must be raised that he will ever secure the superfights he craves. Swansea fighter Maccarinelli expressed his sympathy for Calzaghe, but says he is determined to seize his chance on the big stage.
"I'm disappointed for Joe and hope he gets well soon, but this is a great opportunity for me," he said.
"I'm getting a good following in Wales and, like Joe, I've got what the fans want - action, excitement and the big knock-out punch.
"My training has gone really well for this fight and the change in opponent has not affected my preparations.
"Whoever is put in front of me will still be knocked out. Morais is a big puncher but will not be able to stand up to my power."
Thirty-two-year-old Johannesburg-fighter Morais has a record of 15-5-3 and has stopped 10 of his opponents.
WBU light-middleweight champ Takaloo has also withdrawn from the Cardiff card. In place, Eamonn Magee and Jimmy Vincent will contest the vacant WBU welterweight title.
