Warren blast for Arthur
Arthur was dumped on the canvas in the fifth round
Promoter Frank Warren has hit out at Alex Arthur for not revealing he went into his British super-featherweight title defence against Michael Gomez suffering from a throat infection.

The Edinburgh fighter was given a hammering by the Mancunian and blamed his illness for his surprise defeat at Meadowbank.

Arthur will now be the subject of British Boxing Board of Control inquiry.

Warren was furious he had been kept in the dark and said: "If a fighter is not well then he shouldn't be fighting.

"None of us were aware of Alex's condition and that was a really stupid thing for him to do. Now he's been called before the British Boxing Board of Control.

"It is correct to say that boxer's don't get paid if they don't fight but they also don't get as much money if they lose their title. Fights can be postponed."

In a ferocious contest, Arthur was stopped in the fifth round in front of his home town fans.

After the fight Arthur said he had been to see a doctor about his throat and admitted he'd made the wrong decision to fight.

"I know I've been a bit daft - but I honestly felt I could still win the fight," Arthur told the Scotsman.

"I knew I would be struggling physically if it got to the later rounds, and that's why I went to war with Gomez even though I was clearly out-boxing him early on.

"I felt I could finish him. But he got to me first, and all credit to Michael for that.

"I still believe I would beat him if I was 100% and, I hope, I'll get the chance to prove it in a rematch one day. I will bounce back from this, don't worry."
