Brian Magee has won his opening 18 professional fights

Belfast boxer Brian Magee will defend his IBO super-middleweight title against South African Andre Thysse on 21 June at the MEN Arena in Manchester.

Magee's promoter Barry Hearn had been considering matching the Irishman with former WBC champions Robin Reid and Glen Catley but he has plumped for Commonwealth Champion Thysse.

The South African claimed the Commonwealth title with a surprise points win over Britain's David Starie in March.

Thysse is ranked eighth by the World Boxing Council so a win for Magee would be wonders for his career.

Hearn was impressed with Magee's performance in his last fight during February when he claimed a unanimous points verdict over Miguel Jiminez.

Magee has won the opening 18 contests of his professional career.

WBF featherweight champion Michael Brodie will top the Manchester bill.
