Rees will have to wait for his shot at Kevin Lear |
Gavin Rees has had his challenge for Kevin Lear's WBU super-featherweight title delayed for a second time. The Newbridge boxer was due to get his chance on the Joe Calzaghe-Byron Mitchell undercard in Cardiff on 28 June, but the champion has withdrawn with a shoulder injury.
It is a recurrence of the problem Lear suffered in training for the original date in Wembley in February.
Rees (19-0-0, 9 KOs) will still feature on the Calzaghe show against an unnamed opponent and it is hoped that the Lear bout can be rescheduled for a later date.
"Maybe, Lear knows he's going to get beat when he gets in the ring with me and that's why he keeps putting it off," a disappointed Rees told the South Wales Argus.
"But I'm a professional and will be ready whenever Lear finally decides he wants to fight me."
Rees will take part in a public work-out in Cardiff's St Davids Shopping Centre on Thursday, 29 May, from 1130 BST. Also appearing will be Joe Calzaghe, Jamie Arthur and Enzo Maccarinelli.
