It is just a week until my challenge for the European heavyweight title against Sinan Samil Sam in Germany. I want to win the title so badly, I'm just so hungry and I have not felt this sort of eagerness in a long time.
Training has gone well, I've had some excellent sparring with the next cruiserweight champion of the world, David Haye. I have seen a tape of Sam and it is quite surprising - despite the fact that he was a good amateur, he comes at you and fights with his face a lot. I'm looking to put my shots together and take him out in no more than five rounds. The plan is basically to box, use my jab and set up powerful shots - I'm not looking to go the distance because I don't fancy my chances of getting a close decision in Germany. Weight-wise, I think I'm coming in at 18 stone four pounds - I felt weaker getting down to 17st 10lbs, but at this weight I feel better, stronger and more powerful, while still maintaining my speed. No probs for Audley On the same night in Brentford, Audley Harrison will be fighting American Rob Calloway and I do not expect him to have any problems. Audley should take this guy out in under three rounds - he is too big and skilled. Let's hope an impressive performance from him brings us two closer to a showdown later this year, because I'm there waiting for Audley, whenever he wants to take me on Back to the European title fight and I know that I will be feeling a few nerves in the seconds leading up to the first bell.
I'll be thinking about his strengths, my strengths, how to neutralise his - basically, a thousand things will be crossing my mind and the adrenalin will be building. But once that bell rings and you get hit, that's it and it's game on. There was only one fight I ever had when I didn't get hit - against Kali Meehan in 2001, when I defended my Commonwealth title. I didn't get to sleep that night until five or six in the morning because I still had so much adrenalin in me and in the end, I had to force myself to sleep! | Top Boxing stories now: Links to more Boxing stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
