Haye deal not confirmed
David Haye, top amateur boxer now turning professional
Haye intends to start as a cruiserweight
BBC Sport has denied that they have already completed a deal with David Haye to televise the start of the former amateur star's professional career.

Haye, who won a silver medal at last year's World Amateur Championships, has reportedly applied for his professional boxer's licence and will be managed by Eugene Maloney, whose brother Frank once managed Lennox Lewis.

After injury curtailed his involvement in this summer's Commonwealth Games, it was rumoured that Haye would pursue a lucrative career in the paid ranks rather than train for the 2004 Olympics.

Because of his success at last year's championships and other attributes, Haye is possibly the most sought-after talent in British boxing.

"We can confirm we have been in discussions with David Haye," said a BBC Sport spokesman.

"But no deal has been confirmed."

It is believed that Frank Warren may also make a bid for Haye's services, with the promoter refusing to confirm or deny the speculation.

Despite having success at heavyweight, Haye will probably begin his career at cruiserweight and hope to emulate Evander Holyfield, who cleaned up in that division before moving to the unlimited class.
