Williams sets title date
Danny Williams in action against Julius Francis
Williams wants a shot at WBA champion John Ruiz
Danny Williams will defend his British and Commonwealth heavyweight title against Keith Long at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on 17 September.

The fight, which was rescheduled from earlier in the year after Long withdrew with an injury, will be shown live on BBC One at 2235 BST.

Williams is expected to comfortably beat his old sparring partner but could find it tough to win inside the distance.

If Williams is successful he will get to keep his Lonsdale belt - and could fight John Ruiz for the World Boxing Association heavyweight title by the end of the year.

Ruiz is free to defend his title against any challenger rated in the governing body's top 10, and Williams is currently ninth.

BBC Sport has also won the rights to screen the fight between light-heavyweight world champion Roy Jones Jr and Britain's Clinton Woods on 8 September.

Sheffield-based Woods takes on arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet for the WBC, WBA and IBF titles.

The fight in Portland, Oregon, will be broadcast live on Radio Five Live in the early hours of Sunday morning.

And the whole contest will be shown later the same day on Sunday Grandstand.
