 Crombie-Hicks won the Challenge by half-an-hour |
Shona Crombie-Hicks has powered her way to victory in the 1000 Mile Challenge six weeks after starting the event. She beat off her five other competitors in the challenge, which re-enacted a famous wager by Captain Robert Barclay of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers back in 1809.
Crombie-Hicks and her rivals had to run one hour on foot of every hour and night since the 2 March start before completing Sunday's Marathon course.
And she completed the course half-an-hour clear of South Africa's Paul Selby
Afterwards Crombie-Hicks said: "I'm delighted to have won overall from a field of men and women.
"I enjoyed the challenge but it was getting very hard towards the end. especially waking up at night. I think all the challengers coped very well with the sleep depravation."
The Scot won 11,000 for her efforts.
"I was very happy to see the finish line," she added. "I'll be soon having my first beer for six weeks, and not long after that my tenth. I'm really going to party."
