European Championship medallists Dai Greene, Rhys Williams and Christian Malcolm will spearhead Wales' athletics challenge at the Commonwealth Games.

European 400m hurdles champion Greene and silver-medallists Williams and Malcolm (200m) are part of a 23-strong Welsh line-up for Delhi in October.

Greene hopes to make up for bad memories of the 2006 Melbourne Games.

The Swansea Harrier was due to take part in the 4x400m, but injury left Wales with only three competitors.

Greene said: "I'm really proud to be selected for Wales for the Commonwealth Games, especially after such a disappointing experience in Melbourne in 2006.

"Four years ago I hoped to be part of the 4x400m relay team but never got the chance to pull on the Welsh vest, after our squad was reduced to just three athletes on the day of the heats.

"Now being officially selected in an individual event, I can't wait for the Games to come around.

"After the excitement of winning in Barcelona, I am now refocusing on my preparations for Delhi.

"I hope that with the best possible approach to the Commonwealths, I can produce a performance of similar quality and bring home a medal for Wales."

Wales also include experienced Commonwealth Games competitors such as Philippa Roles and wheelchair racer Brian Alldis as well as fresh faces such as Sally Peake and Joe Thomas.

Welsh Athletics coaching boss John Dagata, said: "I'm very excited about the team representing Wales in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in India this October.

"The athletes selected for Wales represent a work ethic and consistent performance rating we all should be very proud of.
