London has entered the race to host the 2015 World Athletics Championships. The 2012 Olympic Games host city will battle it out with Chinese capital Beijing and Polish city Chorzow for the right to stage the biennial event. The International Association of Athletics Federations will announce its winner in November. A successful London bid could clear up the future of the Olympic Stadium, which has been the subject of interest from football club West Ham. An IAAF statement read: "By the deadline of 10 March, letters of intent have been received from Beijing and London, as well as from the Polish city of Chorzow, a city of two million people in the Silesian region. "The decision on the 2015 host will be taken at the November 2010 Council meeting." Plans for the post-2012 use of Stratford's Olympic Park venue, in the east of the city, remain unclear.  | 606: DEBATE |
London 2012 chairman Sebastian Coe has insisted that track and field remains its primary purpose after the Games. But east London-based Premier League side West Ham hope to persuade the Government to let them play in the 80,000 capacity stadium, while Coe has not ruled out sharing the stadium with other sports and exploring other income streams. England is already staging the Rugby Union World Cup in 2015. The next World Athletics Championships take place in Daegu, South Korea, in 2011, before they visit Russian capital Moscow in 2013.
